1845 Coffee – A Brew With a View
Calling all coffee lovers! 1845 Coffee isn’t just any caffeine fix - it’s a unique Naval Academy coffee experience featuring the locally brewed and beloved 1845 Coffee. With two public locations brewing up the perfect cup, this coffee haven offers everything from classic espresso drinks to trendy coffee concoctions and smoothies.
Location #1: The Gatehouse – Situated in the oldest building on the Yard (yep, it’s historic AND serves coffee), this spot has sweet outdoor seating where you can sip your latte while watching midshipmen march by. Hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., and Saturday - Sunday, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - perfect for a morning or afternoon pick-me-up. Their menu changes seasonally, offering up fresh treats to complement your day.
Location #2: The Midshipmen Store – If you’re eligible to visit this exclusive spot, you’ll find midshipmen flocking here for coffee, smoothies, sandwiches, and more. Open Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., their robust menu features many local favorites.
Both locations serve up fresh pastries, sandwiches, salads, and wraps alongside their impressive drink menu. So whether you’re looking for a peaceful coffee break or a quick but tasty bite, 1845 Coffee is your go-to.

The Alley Restaurant – Dine Like a Naval VIP
Tucked inside the elegant and iconic Naval Academy Club, the Alley Restaurant is where history meets high-quality dining. Surrounded by maritime photography and plush seating, you’ll enjoy a menu that’s as impressive as the Naval Academy dining setting.
Start with their legendary Chesapeake crab dip served with warm pretzel bread, or dive into the Margherita flatbread. Feeling extra hungry? Check them out in the MidStore parking lot for lunch from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on scheduled days, and for dinner at Dahlgren Hall’s seaward side from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on scheduled days, to taste the full flavor of the Yard!
