    The Annapolis area and Washington, DC offer a treasure trove of military history, with national monuments, museums, and memorials that honor our nation’s armed forces and their sacrifices. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, or simply looking to experience some of the most meaningful landmarks in the country, these sites are sure to inspire.     1. Vietnam Veterans Memorial

    Located on the National Mall in Washington, DC, this striking black granite wall pays a poignant tribute to the over 58,000 service members who lost their lives during the Vietnam War. Designed by American architect Maya Lin when she was a senior at Yale University, the memorial’s reflective surface allows visitors to see their own faces among the inscribed names, creating a powerful connection to the past.     2. Korean War Veterans Memorial

The museum is currently expanding, so check its social media page for updates on the new location. When the indoor portion is closed, you can still view the Memorial Plaza and its Spirit of Freedom Statue. 

     

    11. The United States Naval Academy

    Right here in Annapolis, the U.S. Naval Academy is steeped in history and tradition. Established in 1845, it trains future naval leaders while preserving its rich heritage. Tour the fascinating Naval Academy Museum, explore the scenic Yard full of United States Navy memorials and monuments, and see living history in the movements of the midshipmen. You can also visit the Naval Academy Cemetery, where notable figures like Senator John McCain and Fleet Admiral Ernest King are buried.
